All-rounder Shreyas Gopal made his debut for Karnataka in 2013.

Leg-spin all-rounder Shreyas Gopal, on July 21, 2023, announced that he will leave his state team of Karnataka in the lookout for a new adventure ahead of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.

Born on September 4, 1993, Shreyas Gopal’s father Ramaswamy Gopal was a club cricketer for 20 years while his mother Amitha played volleyball at the state level. He had actually made his debut for the team as a middle-order batter, who could bowl leg-spin, but in no time, became one of the lead spinners in domestic cricket.

The 29-year-old cricketer made his FC debut for Karnataka in 2013 and took 22 wickets at an average of 18.22 in his first Ranji Trophy season, as Karnataka claimed the 2013-14 title. His first big claim to fame was a hat trick against the Rest of India in the final of that year’s Irani Cup, which helped his team win the trophy.

Thanks to such displays with the ball, Gopal was picked by the Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 10 lakh in the 2014 IPL auction. Later he went on to play for Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad as well in the IPL.

In all, Gopal played 76 FC matches for Karnataka to date and made 3137 runs with a best of 161* an average of 34.47. He has hit 5 centuries and 13 fifties till now. With the ball, Gopal took 218 wickets with best bowling figures of 9/108 and an average of 29.10.

He also played 57 List-A games for Karnataka and picked 89 wickets with a best of 5/19 and scored 702 runs with a best of 64 and three fifties to his name.
