Shreyas Iyer has not played any game in competitive cricket from March 2023.

India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is doubtful for the upcoming Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka in September. As per media reports, Shreyas Iyer has been undergoing physiotherapy at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Going through rehabilitation, Shreyas Iyer will not be back to his full fitness for the Asia Cup 2023. Sources have told that Shreyas Iyer has taken injections to get relief from his back problem.  Along with Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are also going through rehabilitation as BCCI is looking to get all these names ready for the big ICC Cricket World Cup in October - November.

Talking about Shreyas Iyer’s back problem, sources have told, “Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble”. It will be a big setback for team India if Iyer fails to make it to the Asia Cup. Shreyas Iyer has been away from the action and missed out on Indian Premier League for Kolkata Knight Riders, ODI series against Australia, World Test Championship Final at The Oval, and also from the upcoming West Indies tour.

Along with Shreyas Iyer, BCCI is looking to get Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant fit as soon as possible to give them possible game time before the big World Cup event. The Asia Cup will be an opportunity for the players to regain their confidence and fitness for the big event. As per few reports, Jasprit Bumrah might be in for the Ireland tour while Iyer and Pant may have to wait to regain their full fitness. Rishabh Pant may also miss the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
