VIDEO: Shreyas Iyer narrowly escapes Dog Bite ahead of IND vs NZ ODI series

Shreyas Iyer is gearing up for the ODI series against New Zealand.

Indian Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer is set to make a comeback to the national team in the ODI series against New Zealand. The three-match series will commence on January 11 in Vadodara.

Iyer, who was appointed as the new ODI vice-captain ahead of the Australia tour last year, sustained a deadly injury while fielding in the third ODI in Sydney. After facing a spleen injury and internal bleeding, he was ruled out of the campaign and also underwent surgery in Sydney.

Due to the surgery, he could not return to the field for almost two months. As a result, he was also ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa. After recovering from his injury, he checked in at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the last week of December for rehabilitation.

To prove his fitness, he had to play two games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 for Mumbai. Iyer was impressed with his performance in the two matches, scoring 82 and 45 runs against Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, respectively. Now, he is pulling his socks up for the ODI series against New Zealand.

Although Iyer has recovered from his spleen injury, he narrowly escaped another incident in which a dog bit him. While interacting with a fan at the airport, Iyer tried to greet his dog. However, the dog tried to bite him, and Iyer quickly moved back his fingers and remained unhurt.

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain was surprised at the dog’s reaction and walked ahead with a smile. The video of the moment went viral on the micro-blogging site Twitter (X). Have a look at the video below.

Meanwhile, the first ODI between India and New Zealand will take place in Vadodara on January 11. The next encounter will be played in Rajkot on January 14, while the third game will be played at Holkar Stadium in Indore on January 18. After the ODI series, both sides will clash in five T20I games, where Iyer will be absent.

In his last match, the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide in October, Iyer scored a brilliant half-century (61) while playing for the losing side.
