Shreyas Iyer is likely to be back in action for IPL 2026.

Shreyas Iyer, India’s ODI vice-captain, has shared a new update as he moves forward on his path to recovery from a serious injury he suffered in Australia.

During the most recent ODI series in Australia, Shreyas Iyer had a spleen injury while taking a catch. After an awkward landing during the third ODI in Sydney, he was seen clutching his ribs in excruciating pain.

He had a blunt-force abdomen injury that resulted in internal bleeding and a spleen tear, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC)I. After a quick procedure to halt the bleeding, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation before being discharged once his condition stabilised.

The BCCI later said that he had suffered a blunt-force abdominal injury resulting in internal bleeding and a damaged spleen. He was sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation following a quick surgery to halt the bleeding, and he was released once his condition had stabilised.

Iyer has been receiving continuous medical care. According to India Today, earlier this week he got an ultrasonography (USG) scan near his home, and the results were evaluated by renowned sports medicine expert Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The most recent scan indicated that Iyer was making good progress in his rehabilitation.

Shreyas Iyer is probably going to miss both the limited-overs series against South Africa and New Zealand. Iyer won’t play any games to stay in contention; hence, he will probably miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as well.

After two months, another scan will be conducted, and only after the results of that scan will Iyer be permitted to start training and rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

According to a report by Dainik Jagran, Shreyas Iyer is not expected to play cricket before the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
