Shreyas Iyer recently hammered a century against Maharashtra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
Indian cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer was left livid by a renowned social media user for spreading fake news about his shoulder injury.
On Tuesday it was reported that Iyer will miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game against Tripura but the exact reason for this was not yet known. Yet, a Twitter user, with the handle “@mufaddal_vohra” who has over 900,000 followers, tweeted that the 29-year-old has suffered a shoulder injury again.
As the news spread on social media, it reached Iyer too, who slammed the Twitter user for spreading fake rumours about his injury.
Shreyas Iyer replied, “Guys seriously let’s do some homework before publishing news”
Check out the original tweet by @mufaddal_vohra that was deleted after Iyer’s reply.
Following Iyer’s tweet the twitter user apologized for spreading fake information without verification.
Shreyas Iyet to skip next Ranji match for personal reasons
Not too long after Iyer’s comment on Twitter, it was confirmed by news agency PTI that Iyer has requested the Mumbai senior men’s selection committee to skip Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy game due to personal reasons. The request from the senior batsman has been accepted.
Iyer has featured in all three of his team’s Ranji matches so far. Against Maharashtra, he hit a match-winning century, scoring 142 off 190 balls.
The right-hander has been out of India’s test side since being dropped mid-way during the England series at home in February this year.
Mumbai have also dropped opener Prithvi Shaw from their squad to face Tripura.
