Shreyas Iyer got injured during the third AUS vs IND ODI in Australia.

Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been battling with a rib injury, which was life-threatening when he got injured. The ODI vice-captain gave his all for the team but he didn’t know things would turn this much worse for him.

Shreyas Iyer, in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, came up with a sensational catch to remove Alex Carey. However, he fell badly on the ground while taking the catch and ended up injuring his rib, following which he was taken off the field.

As he went to the dressing room, as per the reports in Times of India, Shreyas Iyer had dangerously low body vitals and this made the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical team rush him to the hospital as it seemed a life-threatening situation. This was because there was internal bleeding detected, possibly due to the splenic rupture.

The reports claimed that the impact of the fall was such that it split the body part right under the rib cage and resulted in severe internal bleeding. He wasn’t in good condition in the dressing room as his blood pressure also dropped to alarmingly low levels.

Shreyas Iyer was shifted to the ICU in Sydney hospital and it is learned that he is likely to be in the ICU for two more days. However, it could be extended if the bleeding doesn’t stop. He will be in the hospital for at least seven days as the doctors monitor him closely.

The BCCI is also working at a rapid pace to ensure someone from his family can be in Sydney at the earliest. It is not clear at this stage when that will happen but someone from the family soon will be reaching Australia.

The BCCI isn’t giving much insight into the situation surrounding Iyer. But, they released the official statement, revealing that the batter’s scan has revealed laceration injury to the spleen.

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” BCCI said.

“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”
