India A and Australia A will play three unofficial ODIs during the series. The next two games will also be played in Kanpur on October 3 and 5. Earlier, India A won the unofficial test series 1-0.

Iyer was the skipper of India A in the first unofficial test. However, he stepped down as captain ahead of the second game after facing issues with his back. He has taken a six-month break from red-ball cricket and also informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his decision.

Meanwhile, Iyer is a crucial member of India’s batting unit in the 50-over format. He is highly likely to be part of the ODI series against Australia later this month. The right-handed batsman last played for India in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March, where he finished as the highest run-scorer for the team.
