Shubman Gill has been sensational in the field in first SL vs IND Test in Galle.

The Indian Cricket Team are taking on Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium for the first Test, which marks the beginning of India’s final opportunity to seal a spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2027 Final.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill looked motivated as he left the fans in absolute awe after he took a stunning catch in the ongoing first match. Gill showcased exceptional reflexes when he dived to his left to complete a one-handed catch, sending the dangerous Kamindu Mendis back to the pavilion.

Undoubtedly, this effort from the Indian skipper would go down as one of the best grabs of the year. The moment unfolded after India looked to mount pressure on the Sri Lankan batters by introducing spinners from both ends. While Manav Suthar once again proved to be exceptionally sharp with his spin bowling masterclass, Kuldeep Yadav rolled his fingers over the ball in an economical spell.

Kamindu Mendis is one of Sri Lanka’s most efficient batters in the longest format of the game over the past few years. While the pressure started to build around the Lankan batters, Mendis tried to break the pressure with an offensive drive off the length. Though it looked like a clear strike to pierce the infield, Gill, who had anticipated the shot early, leapt sideways and plugged it out of thin air.

Indian spinners strike early on Day 3: Manav Suthar takes charge

India posted a respectable total of 462, with the final wicket falling on Day 3. Devdutt Padikkal remains the highlight of India’s innings with a solid 167. Though many contributed significantly, KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel were the two others to hit the milestone of half-centuries.

With Jasprit Bumrah not playing the first Test against Sri Lanka, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna shared the new ball. In a short spell, Siraj provided the first breakthrough before captain Gill resorted to an all-spin attack.

Young Manav Suthar was the first spinner to be introduced, and he struck in his very first over. Having picked up two quick wickets, including the experienced batter Dinesh Chandimal, Kuldeep Yadav further tightened the shackles from the other end. With Gill’s incredible catch, the immediate impact seems inspiring. With four early wickets, Sri Lanka are struggling early on Day 3 with a mountain of runs in front of them.
