Shubman Gill slammed a double century in the first innings of Edgbaston test.

Tension arose in the Indian camp after skipper Shubman Gill was hit on his head during the second test between England Cricket Team and India Cricket Team. The encounter is taking place at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Gill played a marvellous knock, where he scored 269 runs in the first innings after India were asked to bat first by England skipper Ben Stokes. The right-handed batsman powered India to a gigantic total of 587/10 in the first innings, with crucial contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Ravindra Jadeja (89).

With his incredible knock, Gill also broke Virat Kohli’s (254) record for the highest individual score by an Indian captain in tests. He also broke batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s (241) record for the highest knock by an Indian player outside Asia.

During the second session on day three of Edgbaston test, Gill was hit on his head while fielding at slips. The incident happened in Ravindra Jadeja’s over, when England batter Harry Brook tried to hit a powerful shot on his delivery but managed an edge. Gill had very little time to respond as the ball hit the top of his head.

After the incident, Gill was seen in pain as vice-captain Rishabh Pant checked his injury. As a result, the team physio was called to the field and he carried out some treatment. Fortunately, the Indian skipper did not face any serious injury and continued with his fielding after the incident.

Meanwhile, England made a strong comeback in the first innings on the back of centuries by Jamie Smith (184*) and Harry Brook (158). Both the batters slammed centuries and etched a 303 stand to bail their team out of trouble after early wickets.

England had lost five wickets for 84 runs, but the duo brought the hosts back in the game with their brilliant batting, taking their team to 407. For India, Mohammed Siraj bagged six wickets while Akash Deep picked four as the visitors take a massive lead of 180 runs.
