Shubman Gill scored a double century in the first innings of Edgbaston test.

With his brilliant batting show in the second test against England, Indian skipper Shubman Gill has broken a 54-year-old record of batting legend Sunil Gavaskar. The second test between Indian Cricket Team and England Cricket Team is underway at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In the first innings, Gill slammed his first double century in tests, smacking 269 runs off 387 deliveries. The right-handed batsman hammered 30 fours and three sixes during his innings to demolish England bowlers.

With his incredible knock, Gill powered India to a gigantic total of 587/10 in the first innings. Later, India bowled out England for 407 in the first innings with a six-wicket haul by Mohammed Siraj. In the second innings, Gill returned with another brilliant knock, reaching his half-century in the second session on day 4.

However, Gill has gone past his total in the ongoing Edgbaston test, reaching more than 350 runs in the encounter. The third Indian player on the list is VVS Laxman, with his 340 runs during a test match against Australia in 2001.
