IND vs WI: Shubman Gill becomes 2nd Indian captain after Virat Kohli to hit 5 test hundreds in a calendar year

Indian captain Shubman Gill grabbed a lot of limelight with his marvellous batting show on day 2 of the second test between Indian Cricket Team and West Indies Team on Saturday, October 11. The right-hander slammed his 10th test century during the clash, which is underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal resumed India’s batting on day 2 after having a solid outing with the bat on day one. Jaiswal was en route to his double century, however, he bagged an unlucky run-out in the first session and was dismissed for 175 runs. Later, Gill took the onus to himself and reached the three-mark in the second session.
He also etched a partnership of 91 runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and 102 runs with Dhruv Jurel (44). The hosts declared their batting in the first innings with 518 runs on the board, with the Indian captain scoring an unbeaten 129 runs off 196 deliveries with 16 fours and two sixes.
Shubman Gill equals Virat Kohli’s record as India captain

With his century in the clash, Gill has become the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to score five tons in test cricket in a single year. The 26-year-old hammered four centuries in the previous test series against England, where he also won the Player of the Series award.
Kohli registered five test centuries as captain in 2017 and 2018. Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar is the next batter for the record with four tons in the year 1997.
