Shubman Gill was sensational with bat in the month of September.

September was an eventful month for the cricket world, especially the Indian cricket teams. While the men’s side faced Afghanistan and the West Indies, a different delegation also went to Japan to defend the Asian Games gold medal.

The Men in Blue defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in the T20I series before they won the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Shubman Gill and co. gave dominant performance in the first two games; however, West Indies skipper Shai Hope saved his side from a whitewash by scoring a commendable century in the first game of the series.

At the Asian Games, the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the semi-finals and final, respectively, to defend their men’s cricket gold medal. Meanwhile, they also won the Suzuki Cup by securing a close 2-run triumph over Japan.

On the other hand, the women’s team played in the Asia Cup and the 2026 Asian Games, winning both. Thus, it was very likely that someone from the Indian teams would be named the player of the month.

Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Player of the Month for September. He has scripted history by winning the award for the record fifth time. His previous awards were presented in January and September 2023, and in February and July 2025.

Gill was the winner over the likes of India’s Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, who were also in contention to be named the ICC Player of the Month.

Shubman Gill won the award due to his stellar performance in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. He scored 110 runs in the first ODI against the Caribbean side in Thiruvananthapuram. Gill later scored 223 runs off 133 balls to help his side chase a total of 406 and win the second ODI by eight wickets.

Meanwhile, Indian opening batter Shefali Verma clinched her second award, thanks to impressive performances in the Asia Cup and the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya.
