"Will be disappointed.." Shubman Gill reveals how he will feel if he doesn't get selected for T20 World Cup 2024

Shubman Gill is likely to be part of Indian squad for upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The race for getting selected for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has intensified as the time for the squad announcement for the mega event is very near. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is likely to announce the Indian squad for the ICC event in the first week of May, which means only a week is left to go. A number of players have done well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

That has certainly made it a big headache for the selectors to choose from. One name that is likely to make it into the squad is Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old star has been superb for India across formats for last year or so. He is currently leading the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing IPL 2024 and has done well with the bat as well.

Shubman Gill has been India’s highest run-getter across formats since 2023. But still, there have been some doubts about his position in the T20I squad. With Yashasvi Jaiswal coming through the ranks, it looks tough for Gill to make it into the team. In a recent interview, Gill talked about the opportunity to play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He was asked about his chances.

He said that playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was a dream come true, and if he gets a chance in the coming event, it will be a massive opportunity. Gill said, “If I am able to make it to this year’s T20 World Cup, it would be nothing short of a dream coming true.” as quoted by HindustanTimes. Furthermore, he was asked about the situation if he did not get selected.

The GT skipper said, “After scoring almost 900 runs (in IPL) last season, I would obviously be disappointed as a player. I would still be cheering for the players and wish them the best.” Gill has been in good form. He has scored 304 runs at an average and strike rate of 38 and 146.25 respectively with two half-centuries. He needs to show some more match-winning performances to keep up in the race.
