India and England are clashing in the 1st ODI at Edgbaston on Tuesday, July 14. England, after opting to bat, piled up 258/10 in the first innings with half-centuries by Joe Root (76*) and Liam Dawson (68).

Opener Ben Duckett scored 43 runs and etched a stand of 61 with Jacob Bethell for the first wicket. However, both of them lost their wickets in quick succession in the 13th over. Key batters Harry Brook, Jos Butter, and Sam Curran lost their wickets for single digits, as England struggled at 80/5 at one stage.

However, Root and Dawson etched a crucial stand of 121 runs for the seventh wicket to help England make a comeback. For India, spinner Axar Patel was the highest wicket-taker with four wickets.

In the chase, India lost both star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma cheaply at the start. While Rohit lost his wicket for 11 runs, Kohli could only score 5 before becoming a victim of Jofra Archer. After their dismissals, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer batted with patience and helped India get out of trouble.

Shubman Gill looked in sublime touch as he led from the front, scoring a half-century in the match. However, after reaching 80 runs off 75 balls, he suffered an injury scare and left the field in the 26th over. He retired hurt after having issues with his leg.

After the 4th delivery of Josh Tongue’s 26th over, Gill had an issue with his leg. He removed his gloves and was seen holding back of his right leg.

The team physio checked on him and after having a chat, he walked off the field. It looked like either Gill injured his hamstring or had a cramp while batting. After he left the field, Washington came out of bat.
