Shubman Gill scored 34 runs in the first T20I match against Sri Lanka on July 27.

In a surprising turn of events, Indian cricket team opener and vice-captain Shubman Gill has been not included in India’s playing XI for the second match of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on July 28.

In the opening match of the series, vice-captain Shubman Gill had a good outing with the bat. The 24-year-old played a quick fire knock of 34 runs in 16 deliveries, which included six boundaries and one maximum. Gill also stitched a crucial opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal of 74 runs.

He is out due to neck spasm: India captain Suryakumar Yadav on Gill’s exclusion from playing XI for the 2nd T20I

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field first in the second T20I match against Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka on July 28.

During the toss, Suryakumar Yadav confirmed that vice-captain Gill will miss the second T20I due to a neck spasm. Suryakumar further added that wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson replaced vice-captain Gill in the India playing XI.

“We will look to bowl first. There is a bit of weather around and the wicket played better in the second innings. There are always areas to improve even when you win a game, you keep learning and you keep improving. Gill misses out as he woke up with a neck spasm, Samson comes in,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the toss.

The Indian cricket team won the first T20I match against Sri Lanka by 43 runs on July 27. Men in Blue are leading the three-match T20I series by 1-0 with two more games to go.
