Shubman Gill CROWNED new No.1 ICC ODI batter; Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma also feature in top five list

Indian Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill is in red-hot form right now across formats. The Indian captain had a great IPL 2026, where he led his team to the final, scoring 732 runs in 16 games. His incredible season as a batter was followed by even better form in Test and ODI cricket for the India.

He scored a century in the one-off Test against Afghanistan and then won two Player of the Match awards in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

His brilliant form continued in the ODI series against England, where he scored 80 not out in the first match of the series before getting retired hurt, and then scored 77 runs in the final match of the series. Gill’s consistency across formats has firmly established him as one of the finest batters in world cricket at the moment.

His outstanding performances helped him climb to the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. However, the top position has been constantly contested between Shubman Gill and Daryl Mitchell, with Virat Kohli in third place and Rohit Sharma in fourth.

In the latest updated ICC ODI batting rankings, Shubman Gill has reclaimed the No. 1 spot, replacing Daryl Mitchell. Mitchell, who had a rating of 802 points, was ranked No. 1 in the ODI batting rankings, with Gill close behind on 801 rating points. However, with Mitchell missing the last two ODIs against the West Indies in the five-match ODI series, his rating dropped to 794, making Gill the new No. 1 ODI batter in the world.

Virat Kohli remains in third place with 767 rating points, while Rohit Sharma is just behind him in fourth with 758 rating points. Having three Indian batters in the top four is a major boost for Indian cricket fans.

With the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup just a year away, preparations are in full swing, and having three top-order batters in excellent form is a positive sign for the Indian team. However, the team recently failed to win an ODI series in England and also lost to New Zealand at home, which is not an encouraging sign. The Indian team will be looking to rectify those mistakes and build momentum ahead of the World Cup.
