Shubman Gill will lead India in the ODI series against England next month.
Indian Cricket Team came up with a dominating performance in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. They completed a 3-0 whitewash, winning all three games by big margins, and begin their road to ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 on a high.
India outplayed the visitors by 7 wickets in the first game, 170 runs in the second match, and by 9 wickets in the third encounter on June 20.
Shubman Gill stole the limelight with his performance in the ODI series against Afghanistan, hitting an unbeaten fifty and a century in the first two games. He did not get a chance to bat in the third encounter but finished as the leading run-scorer in the series, and was adjudged Player of the Series.
India will now tour United Kingdom (UK) for white-ball series against Ireland and England. Ireland tour will comprise two T20Is on June 26 and 28, but Gill will miss the series as he is not part of T20I team. Shreyas Iyer will begin his first stint as a captain in the shortest format. It will be followed by a five-match T20I series against England.
Shubman Gill will return to take the reins of the side in the ODI series against England. Both sides will lock horns in three ODI games after the T20I series, scheduled to be played from July 14 to 19.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to announce the squad for the ODI series against England. In the post-match press conference of IND vs AFG 3rd ODI, Gill revealed that the squad for England series will be announced tomorrow or in the next couple of days.
BCCI announced the squad for the T20I series against England last month, but mentioned that the ODI squad will be revealed later. Many players part of the ODI series against Afghanistan are expected to get a spot, while senior members like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Virat Kohli are expected to return.
