England Cricket Team defeated Indian Cricket Team by 22 runs in third test of the ongoing five-match series at the Lord’s. After the defeat, Indian skipper Shubman Gill said that he was extremely proud of the efforts by his players in the encounter.
India had a target of 193 runs in the Lord’s test. However, they were bowled out for 170 runs in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 61 runs in the second innings. However, India’s top order and middle-order batters failed to score runs. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer clinched three wickets each in the second innings.
Earlier in the first innings, England posted 387/10 in the first innings with Joe Root’s century. India also scored same number of runs in their first innings courtesy of a ton by KL Rahul. The visitors then bowled out the hosts for 192 runs, setting themselves a target of 193 to chase.
Tremendously proud of the effort: Shubman Gill after India lose the Lord’s test
During the post-match presentation, Gill said that he was proud of his team’s efforts for the victory in the encounter. He also added that he was quite confident about the chase.
“Extremely proud. Five days of hard-fought cricket and it comes down to the last session, last wicket and tremendously proud of the effort. I was pretty confident (about the chase),” he said.
“With plenty of batting left I was pretty confident, but the way England kept attacking, we wanted to have maybe a couple of 50-run partnerships in our top-order, we weren’t able to do that and they played better than us,” he added.
Gill heaped praise on Jadeja for his crucial unbeaten 61 runs in the second innings. Gill also acknowledged that India should have batted a little better towards the end of day 4.
“He (Jadeja) is very experienced, and didn’t want to give him any message. I think he was batting really well with the tail and I just wanted him and the tail-enders to bat as long as possible,” Gill said.
“I think the last one hour (on day 4), we could have applied ourselves a bit better, especially the last 2 wickets that fell. And even in this morning, the way they came out with the plans we were hoping for one 50-run partnership and if we had gotten one 50-run partnership in the top order, then things would have been easier for us,” the Indian skipper concluded.

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes won Player of the Match award in the Lord’s test for his all-round efforts. With the win in the third test, England lead the five-match series 2-1. Now, both teams will clash at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, in the fourth test. The encounter will begin on July 23.
