Indian test skipper Shubman Gill has revealed the toughest bowler he has faced in his career. He named former England pacer, James Anderson, as the toughest one to face.

Shubman Gill, who is India’s vice-captain for Asia Cup 2025, returned to T20I team after more than a year. In the opening game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he scored an unbeaten 20 runs to help India defeat the UAE by nine wickets.

India are now gearing up for their next clash against Pakistan, scheduled to be played on September 14 in Dubai. Gill, who gave an outstanding batting show in India’s last test series against England, will be aiming to follow up with another brilliant show in Asia Cup 2025.

Ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash, the 25-year-old revealed the toughest bowler he has faced in a rapid-fire session on Sony Sports Network. Gill termed England pace legend James Anderson as the toughest bowler he has faced so far. He also answered some other interesting questions during the conversation.

Notably, Gill faced Anderson in nine tests during his career, scoring 91 runs at an average of 15.20. The England pacer dismissed him on six occasions across nine tests.

Anderson, who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2024, finished his career as the third-highest wicket-taker in test cricket. In 350 innings across 188 games, he clinched 704 wickets at an average of 26.45. With 991 wickets, he is also the third-highest wicket-taker across three formats.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is leading India in Asia Cup 2025. They are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE. After a huge victory against the UAE in the opening game, the Men in Blue grabbed the top spot in the Group A points table with two points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +10.483.
