Indian opener Shubman Gill will stay in Chennai under medical supervision.

Shubman Gill is ruled out of India's next game against Afghanistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a medical update on Shubman Gill for the first time and informed that Gill will not be available for India's second game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. Gill will be staying in Chennai under the supervision of the medical team. Indian opening batter Shubman Gill missed India’s opening game against Australia.

Shubman Gill has been suffering from dengue fever since he landed in Chennai. Normally, 7-10 days are required to recover completely from Dengue and Gill might need a few more days of rest before he makes his World Cup debut for India. BCCI has put out an official medical report on Shubman Gill and informed that Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October and will be staying in Chennai under medical supervision.

Gill need more time to recover

BCCI’s official update reads, “Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023… He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team.” Indian team management was hopeful of Gill taking part in the opening game against Australia but captain Rohit Sharma informed at the toss that Gill might need a few more days to recover completely.

Earlier a few media reports came where it was stated that Shubman Gill might travel with the team to Delhi and then go to Chandigarh and stay with his family for a few days. Gill will try his best to make his World Cup debut against Pakistan but as of the current situation, it looks unlikely that Gill will get back to normal fitness this week as well. He will probably make his World Cup debut against Bangladesh on 19th October.

Team India won their opening fixture against Australia by 6 wickets. It was a tough game for Indian top-order as they went through a shocking start. Team India lost their first three wickets inside the first two overs in a modest 200-run chase. Ishan Kishan got the opportunity to open the innings along with skipper Rohit Sharma. Both of them got a duck and India got off to a troubled opening partnership. Virat (85) and Rahul (97*) won the game for India at Chepauk.
