Shubman Gill lost the toss for the third consecutive time in the series.
After scoring a ton and a double century in the second India vs England test, Shubman Gill has already demonstrated his ability to lead with his bat. He demonstrated his tactical ability and mastery of mind games during the third test of the ongoing series at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
After choosing to bat first in the third test of the series at the Lord’s, England’s hitters, who were taken aback in Birmingham last week while losing by 336 runs, showed caution against the unrelenting Indian pace attack.
In the 14th over, Gill made a superb bowling change by bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy. The fast-bowling all-rounder quickly took two wickets. He removed both openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, for 18 and 23 runs respectively.
And during the second session of day one, India captain Shubman Gill showed no mercy to England by using a sarcastic sledge to slam Joe Root and Ollie Pope.
“No more entertaining cricket”- Shubman Gill trolls England batters for slow batting
England were scoring at a run rate of 2.95 at one point during the afternoon session. They scored fewer than three runs per over in the first 40 overs of an innings for the second time in the Bazball era, when they had batted 72 times.
Joe Root and Ollie Pope had gone 28 balls in a row without hitting a boundary or scoring a run.
In footage released by the broadcasters, Gill sledged England while displaying no mercy to Root and Pope during England’s defensive display against the Indian attack.
He said:
“No more entertaining cricket. Welcome to boring Test cricket, boys.”
Here is the video:
Ollie Pope was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 44 runs off 104 balls, while Harry Brook was clean bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 11 runs. Meanwhile, Joe Root compiled an amazing half-century and neared another record century. He was assisted by England captain Ben Stokes, who is also looking good.
