Indian captain Shubman Gill had a verbal altercation with England openers in the Lord’s test.

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali feels that Shubman Gill‘s aggression triggered England players during the Lord’s test. The Indian skipper had a verbal altercation with England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett during day 3 of the Lord’s test.

During the final moments of the last session on day 3, Crawley faked an injury and called the team physio onto the field. Gill felt that Crawley was intentionally wasting time. As a result, he engaged in a heated conversation with Crawley and Duckett.

Notably, England outplayed India by 22 runs in the encounter. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes picked three wickets each in the second innings to bowl out India for 170 runs while defending a 193-run target.

Moeen Ali feels Shubman Gill’s aggressive behaviour brought the best out of England players

Speaking on the sidelines of Global Super League (GSL), Ali said that Gill’s aggressive behaviour like Virat Kohli fired up England players during the Lord’s test.

“My take is, it’s fine. I think he’s [Shubman Gill] just trying to be competitive in front of a fight and very similar to Virat, I think it’s fine. But then, obviously the other team, what you’ve done is, I think you’ve actually brought out the best of England and the fight and that beast England can be,” he said.

“And I think it’s a different side of England. They’ve shown all the players that it’s great for the series to win. I don’t know why it’s getting criticised,” he added.

Ali also heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja for his fightback in the Lord’s test. Jadeja scored an unbeaten 61 runs in the second innings and took India close to victory with crucial partnerships with the tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

“He just knows what he’s doing. I think he’s done it for many years. I think he’s been amazing with the bat this series, obviously. I think with the ball, he hasn’t quite got the wickets, but he does what he does. He’s very tight. He can bowl, but he’s not outstanding… I think now he’s at the peak of his batting, Ali said.

Meanwhile, after the victory in the third test at the Lord’s, England lead the five-match series 2-1. Both teams will now clash in the fourth test at Old Trafford, Manchester. The encounter will commence on July 23.

Spinner Shoaib Bashir, who faced a finger injury in the Lord’s test, has been ruled out of remainder of the series. England have added Liam Dawson to their squad as a replacement.
