India are preparing for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on November 4. The series will be an important assignment for India as it continues their preparations for the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

Several senior players have joined the squad in Auckland ahead of the opening match. Shubman Gill, who leads India in Tests and ODIs, is among the players preparing for the series alongside KL Rahul and other members.

During Thursday’s practice session at Eden Park, Gill spent time batting in the nets and speaking with head coach Gautam Gambhir. However, another detail from the session caught attention when the Indian captain was spotted wearing an unreleased fitness-tracking device.

The device, called Temple, has been developed by a venture founded by Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal. Gill was seen wearing it on the side of his forehead during his batting practice in Auckland.

Temple is an upcoming wearable designed to track the body’s responses to physical and mental stress. Unlike regular fitness trackers worn on the wrist or finger, it sits on the forehead.

Reportedly, the device uses light-based optical sensors to study changes in cerebral blood flow and oxygenation. It is also designed to monitor nervous system responses and cognitive workload during physical activity.

Temple has not yet been released commercially, and its complete features and performance are not publicly known.

For professional cricketers, such data could be useful during busy international tours, when frequent travel, jet lag and limited recovery time can affect performance. However, it is not yet clear how the Indian team plans to use the device.

Shubman Gill is not the first Indian sportsperson to be spotted wearing the device. Badminton star PV Sindhu was previously seen testing Temple.

According to RevSportz, sources familiar with the development said Gill was impressed by the initial biofeedback and data provided by the system during training.

However, Gill has not commented publicly on this device, nor has he explained why he wore it during a practice session in Auckland.
