Vijay and Siddharth Mallya originally owned the RCB franchise.
Siddharth Mallya, son of former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) owner Vijay Mallya, broke down in tears after RCB finally lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in 2025. The Mallyas owned the RCB franchise for well over a decade before Vijay Mallya absconded to London after defrauding several banks.
The cricketing world, including the Mallya household, celebrated the team’s title drought this week after it was frequently ridiculed for failing to win despite having star-studded rosters over the years. Shortly after RCB’s thrilling victory in the final, Siddharth Mallya posted a touching video on Instagram.
“Eighteen long, long years… I don’t even know what to say,” Siddharth Mallya is heard saying in a tearful voice.
Siddharth has a strong bond with RCB even if he is no longer officially a member of the franchise. He was a director in the early years of the franchise and actively participated in its outreach and branding, even leading the team’s digital projects.

United Spirits, then controlled by Vijay Mallya, was the original owner of RCB.
Vijay Mallya, a fugitive businessman who is currently in the UK and wanted in India on suspicion of financial fraud, also celebrated RCB’s historic victory on social media.
“RCB are IPL Champions finally after 18 years. Superb campaign right through the 2025 tournament. A well-balanced team Playing Bold with outstanding coaching and support staff. Many congratulations! Ee sala cup namde!!”Mallya posted on X.
Online responses to the tweet were divided; some fans applauded his happiness as a founding owner, while others criticized him for continuing to attend RCB-related events in spite of his legal troubles.
RCB defeat PBKS by 6 runs to become IPL champions for the first time
After opting to bowl, Punjab Kings (PBKS) restricted RCB to a modest total despite Virat Kohli’s 43. Contributions from Patidar, Livingstone, and others took RCB to 190. PBKS’s chase was anchored by Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 61*, but tight spells from Bhuvneshwar and Krunal helped RCB defend the target. RCB won by six runs to claim their maiden IPL title, sparking jubilant celebrations led by Virat Kohli and his team.
