Smriti Mandhana crossed the 7000-run mark during India vs South Africa 1st ODI match on June 16.

Indian women’s cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana achieved a huge milestone in her career on Sunday, June 16. The stylish left-handed batter crossed 7,000 international runs across all formats. She became the second Indian batter after the legendary Mithali Raj to achieve this feat.

The 27-year-old Mandhana reached this illustrious milestone during the first ODI match between the Women in Blue and South Africa women’s cricket team at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

During the match against the Proteas’ women’s side, Mandhana hammered a fighting century to end her ODI hundred drought. The star batter smashed her sixth ODI ton and the first in home conditions.

Mandhana slammed 117 runs off 127 balls, which included 12 boundaries and a six. The left-handed batter was dismissed during the 47th over by bowler Masabata Klaas. The opener stood tall against a good South African bowling attack when none of the other Indian batters managed more than 40 runs.

Mandhana, along with all-rounder Deepti Sharma, stitched a crucial partnership of 81 runs for the sixth wicket to help India register 265/8 in 50 overs after opting to bat first on a sluggish Bengaluru surface.

Smriti Mandhana joins elite list with Mithali Raj

During the 28th over of India’s innings, veteran opener Mandhana joined the elite list, which includes Mithali Raj, of women batters with 7000 or more runs for the Indian women’s side across all formats of international cricket.

Among Indians, Mandhana is only behind the great Mithali Raj, who has 10,868 runs across all formats in women’s international cricket. Current Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has amassed 6870* runs across all formats. Harmanpreet is the third-highest-run getter for the Indian women’s cricket team.
