Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian women’s batter to smash back-to-back hundreds in ODIs.

India women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana scripted history as she equaled legendary cricketer Mithali Raj’s Indian record for the most number of centuries in the women’s ODIs. Mandhana achieved this historic milestone during the second ODI match against the South African women’s team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 19.

After being asked to bat first, Indian batters made a mockery of South Africa’s bowling attack as they hammered 325/3 in 50 overs. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hammered unbeaten 103 runs in just 88 deliveries, which included nine boundaries and three maximums.

Harmanpreet and Mandhana stitched a crucial partnership of 171 runs, which helped the hosts go past the 300-run mark. Opener Shafali Verma (20), Dayalan Hemalatha (24) and wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh (25*) also contributed with the bat for India.

During the second ODI match, the Indian opener took time to get used to the Bengaluru surface as at one point she was batting at 19 off 40 balls. However, she didn’t let the scoreboard pressure get her as she raised to her seventh century in just 103 balls, which also helped the hosts go past the 200-run mark in the 40th over.

The Indian opener was dismissed for 136 off 120 balls in the 46th over when she tried to hit his Proteas bowler Nonkululeko Mlaba over the cover region. Mandhana also smashed 18 boundaries and two sixes during her stay at the crease.
