Smriti Mandhana got out for 24 runs against Australia in the semi-final of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

Indian Women Cricket Team opener Smriti Mandhana failed to make a mark in the semi-final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 against Australia Women Cricket Team. She lost her wicket for just 24 runs in the nail-biting encounter, which is underway at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Thursday, October 30.

After opting to bat first, Australia Women dominated with the bat, putting a mammoth total of 338/10 in the first innings. Phoebe Litchfield hammered a marvellous century, hitting 119 runs off 93 deliveries. Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (63) also were spot on with the bat, slamming half-centuries, that helped the team to put up a magnificent total.

In the chase, India Women suffered a big blow at the start, losing opener Shafali Verma for just ten. She was included into the squad as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. After Verma’s dismissal, Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues accelerated the scoreboard, making sure they made up for the early loss.

However, in the 10th over of Kim Garth, India faced second blow, losing Mandhana for just 24 runs. Garth bowled a delivery towards the leg side, and Mandhana seemed to have got an inside edge, which was easily caught by wicket-keeper Healy.

However, the on-field umpire was not convinced and adjudged her not out, but Australia reviewed the decision. Mandhana was looking quite sure of not getting an edge, however, she was stunned when the ultra edge showed an inside edge. She left the field in disbelief while Australian players celebrated her dismissal.

Notably, Mandhana has been the most successful batter for India Women in the tournament, scoring 389 runs in eight games at an average of 55.57. She also slammed a crucial century in the must-win game against New Zealand Women, helping the team to book a berth in the semis. However, she could not replicate her performance in the crucial clash against Australia Women.
