Sourav Ganguly was associated with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 as their director of cricket.

Delhi Capitals had a forgettable outing in the IPL 2023, They finished 9th in the points table and could only win 5 out of their 14 encounters. In a new update, Delhi Capitals current director of cricket Sourav Ganguly is set to become the new head coach of the team. The former Indian captain will replace current DC coach Ricky Ponting. As per a few media reports, Sourav Ganguly will also carry on with the role of Director of Cricket. Sourav Ganguly joined Delhi Capitals after his tenure as BCCI president was over. Rishabh Pant will also come back as skipper for the next season, as his fitness is improving.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting joined the Delhi Capitals camp as head coach in 2018. Ponting was also associated with Mumbai Indians support staff after 2015. Under Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals did well in the Indian Premier League. Delhi played in the finals of the tournament for the first ever time in the IPL 2020. They also qualified for the playoffs in the next season in IPL 2021. Ponting had only one poor season with the Capitals in the IPL 2023 when they finished off the 9th place in the table. Ponting played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

This will be Sourav Ganguly’s first assignment as head coach of an IPL team. He was associated with the Delhi Capitals before taking on the responsibility of CAB and BCCI president in the last three years. Sourav Ganguly has played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India in the IPL. Delhi in their quest for the maiden IPL title have made a change in their coaching staff. Delhi had a poor show in the IPL 2023 and Delhi’s failure is mainly credited to their poor performance with the bat. Apart from their captain David Warner, no other batter could score more than 300 runs.
