WATCH: Sourav Ganguly's iconic Lord's balcony celebration revived by Indian mixed disability team
Sourav Ganguly famously celebrated India’s win at Lord’s by waving his shirt from the balcony.
India’s mixed disability team produced a memorable performance at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday, August 19, defeating the home side by a massive margin of 118 runs in the final match of a seven-match T20I series.
India posted a massive 206/4 in their innings before restricting the hosts to just 88 runs, ending the series with a consolation win. However, England went on to win the series 4-3 against the visitors.
The victory became even more special when one of the Indian cricketers recreated Sourav Ganguly’s iconic celebration on the Lord’s balcony, alongside other officials who celebrated the moment with utmost joy.
From that very balcony at Lord’s, team members removed their blazers while one of the Indian players waved his shirt; the scene was reminiscent of Ganguly’s memorable celebration following India’s victory in the 2002 NatWest Series.
This seemed a moment of utmost joy for the Indian dugout, with the tricolour flying proudly at Lord’s. The video was released on social media by the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India through its official X account.

Sourav Ganguly’s original moment came on July 13, 2002, when India under his leadership famously won the NatWest ODI series after chasing a very challenging target of 326 runs.
In a fit of anger, Ganguly waved his jersey from the Lord’s balcony, and that shirtless image of his became a huge inspiration for a generation of cricketers.
Famously, the incident became a symbol of India’s growing confidence and aggressive approach under Ganguly’s captaincy. It was Ganguly’s response to England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff’s early mockery of India, following England’s victory at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium earlier that year.
24 years have passed since Ganguly’s iconic celebration, but the former Indian captain’s charisma shone through once again when the mixed-disability team recreated that very moment.
In a recently released film poster for Sourav Ganguly’s biopic featuring Rajkummar Rao, the producers have recreated the same iconic moment that instantly captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts.
