Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly reveals he forced Rohit Sharma to take India captaincy

Rohit Sharma has been leading India magnificently in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
It was the same time of the month when a churning happened in Indian cricket two years back and Rohit Sharma was announced as the new captain to lead the Indian team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took an immediate measure to sack Virat Kohli as ODI captain in December 2021. Rohit Sharam was chosen as his successor and the team under him seems to be doing well, winning all 8 league games in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 so far.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma earned huge praise for his performance as well as for the dominating run from his side. Rohit Sharma has been leading from the front in the World Cup and he is among the top 5 leading run-scorers of the tournament as well. Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has now revealed that the current Indian skipper was not ready to take up the role of leadership and he was forced to take up the role replacing Virat Kohli.
Sourav Ganguly’s big revelation
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly revealed in a media chat that Rohit was unwilling due to too much international cricket as well as the responsibility he held for his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. While talking to Sports Tak Ganguly said, “Rohit wasn’t keen. It had gone to a stage ki aapko han bolna hai nahin to main announce kar dunga. (You have to say yes and accept it or else I will announce your name as captain).”
Ganguly has himself led Team India to the World Cup 2003 final in South Africa and had a few memorable wins away from home. Ganguly praised Rohit Sharma and said, “We knew because he was an outstanding captain. After Virat Kohli left he was the best man to lead India. I am not surprised by what I am seeing right now.” Team India have won big against every opposition they have faced in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
