Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is celebrating his birthday on July 8.
Sourav Ganguly is recognised as one of the most dominant and successful captains to play for India. He is also one of the best top-order batsmen to represent the Indian Cricket Team, bagging the limelight with his spectacular performances in Tests and ODIs.
The left-handed batsman piled up more than 7000 runs in over 100 Tests, and mustered over 11,000 in 300-plus ODIs. Under his captaincy, India won the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and also reached the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup. Ganguly is remembered for India’s famous victory in the NatWest series against England in 2002.
Ganguly took the post of BCCI President a few years after his international retirement. The Indian Cricket Team bagged a few famous victories during his tenure on home and foreign soil.
Ganguly is celebrating his birthday on July 8, and he has turned 54. On his birthday, many fans wished him on various social media platforms. Moreover, some reports claim that the Indian legend will be accorded a special honour by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Sourav Ganguly to be added to ICC Hall of Fame – Reports
According to a report by Gaurav Gupta of The Times of India, Ganguly is set to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. However, the ICC is yet to provide an official update on the matter. If Ganguly is added to the ICC Hall of Fame, he will become the 10th Indian cricketer to be honoured with the recognition.
MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Vinoo Mankad, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, and Sunil Gavaskar are the other Indian legends to receive this recognition. Among women players, only Neetu David and Diana Edulji have earned this prominent feat.
Meanwhile, the former left-handed batsman is set to have a biopic on his life. On his 54th birthday, Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao revealed the first look of Ganguly’s biopic titled ‘Dada’. The movie will be released in May 2027.
