Eight South African batsmen have hit centuries in T20I cricket.
Although South Africa have never won the T20 World Cup, they are among the most dominating teams in the shortest format of the game. Over the years, the Proteas have observed many hard-hitting batsmen in T20I cricket, who rocked the field on many occasions with their fearless batting approach and aggressive style of play.
So far, eight South Africa batsmen have scored centuries in T20I cricket. Moreover, two of them have even hit multiple T20I hundreds.

5. Morne van Wyk – 114* vs WI, Durban, 2015
Former South Africa wicket-keeper Morne van Wyk hammered a century against the West Indies in January 2015. In the final game of the three-match series, the Proteas opener hit an unbeaten 114 runs off 70 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries and seven sixes at Kingsmead, Durban.
With his incredible ton, the right-handed batsman powered South Africa’s total to 195/3 in the first innings. Later, South Africa bundled out the Caribbean team for 126 runs, winning the clash by 69 runs.
4. Reeza Hendricks – 117 vs PAK, Centurion, 2024
Reeza Hendricks is also one of the South African batters to hit a T20I hundred. He slammed a century against Pakistan in December 2024. Batting first at SuperSport Park in Centurion in the second T20I game, Pakistan piled up 206/5 in the first innings.
Later, opener Hendricks led the chase from the front, smacking 117 runs off just 63 balls. Hitting ten sixes and seven fours at a strike rate of 185.71, he propelled the Proteas to victory by seven wickets.
3. Richard Levi – 117* vs NZ, Hamilton, 2012
Richard Levi was the first South African batter to score a century in T20I cricket. In the second T20I of the three-match series against New Zealand in February 2012, Richard hit an unbeaten 117 runs off 51 balls to drive his team to victory during a 174-run chase.
Opening the innings, Richard smashed 13 sixes during his innings to send the crowd at Seddon Park into a frenzy. Earlier in the first innings, the hosts piled up 173/4. Leading Proteas to victory by eight wickets in just 16 overs, Richard was awarded Player of the Match.
2. Faf du Plessis – 119 vs WI, Johannesburg, 2015
Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis steals the second spot on this list with his 119-run knock against the West Indies in January 2015, which came in the second T20I at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
Plessis, the Proteas captain in the encounter, smacked 119 runs off 56 deliveries at three in the first innings to drive the scoreboard to 231/7. Striking the ball at 212.50, the right-handed batsman slammed five sixes and 11 fours.
However, his brilliant batting effort went in vain as the visitors chased down the target by four wickets in the final over, with fifties by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.
1. Dewald Brevis – 125* vs AUS, Darwin, 2025

Young Proteas batter Dewald Brevis holds the record of highest individual scores by South African batsmen in T20I cricket. With his innings of 125 runs, he broke Faf du Plessis’ record of 119 runs. The right-hander achieved the feat during second game of the three-match series against Australia in 2025 at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin.
His innings came at a time when his side was left tottering at 57/3. He ended up playing an innings of unbeatean 125 runs off 56 balls, which included 12 boundaries and eight sixes.
