South Africa will face Pakistan in a three-match ODI series starting on December 17.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The Proteas have named a strong squad, emphasizing the importance of playing together as many games as possible before next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.
The squad sees the returns of several notable players including regular skipper Temba Bavuma, who will lead the Proteas against the Asian side. Senior opener Reeza Hendricks has been dropped following his poor form in recent ODIs.
The squad features the returns of other key players including Kagiso Rabada, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi. 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka is the only uncapped player in the squad.
Maphaka’s inclusion has come due to the absence of several senior fast bowlers – Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Gerald Coetzee, Wiaan Mulder and Nandre Burger.
Kagiso Rabada is expected to lead the pace attack, while Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo will provide the seam bowling all-round options. Maharaj and Shamsi will lead the spin bowling department with Aiden Markram being the support spinner for the hosts.
The ODI series precedes the important two-match test series for the Proteas. South Africa currently need one more test win to secure their place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.
