South Africa are placed in Group D in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

South Africa announced their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on Friday, January 2. The Proteas have picked a 15-member squad for the campaign, and Aiden Markram has been named captain. Surprisingly, batters Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton were overlooked in the squad.

Quinton de Kock, who reversed his ODI retirement last year, has been picked by the Proteas for the ICC tournament. Pacer Anrich Nortje, who remained out of the field for a long time and missed crucial tournaments last year due to a back injury, has also found a place in the squad.

Nortje will be joined by senior teammate Kagiso Rabada in the pace department. Jason Smith, Lungi Ngidi, and Kwena Maphaka are other crucial pacers in the squad. Keshav Maharaj will lead the team’s spin attack, with all-rounder George Linde lending a hand with his left-arm orthodox spin.

Notably, South Africa comprises a strong batting unit with the likes of Markram, De Kock, David Miller, Dewald Brevis, and Tony De Zorzi. All-rounder Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch will provide great depth to batting and bowling.

They gave a marvellous performance in the previous edition in 2024 by reaching the final. In the summit clash, they lost by a narrow margin of just seven runs against India. They will aim for their maiden title in the T20 World Cup 2026.

South Africa are placed in Group D in the tournament along with Afghanistan, New Zealand, Canada, and the UAE. They will start their campaign with a clash against Canada on February 9 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It will be followed by encounters against Afghanistan (February 11), New Zealand (February 14), and the UAE (February 18).

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, they will face West Indies in a T20I series at home. The three-match series will take place from January 27 to 31. Meanwhile, ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will commence on February 7 and witness the final on March 8, with 20 teams battling for the trophy.
