Lungi Ngidi returns as South Africa announce squad for ICC WTC 2023-25 final

South Africa announced their squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final. South Africa will face Australia in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma will lead the side in the mega clash, which will begin on June 11 at Lord’s in London.
South Africa was the first team to qualify for the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. The Temba Bavuma & Co. bagged the top spot in the WTC points table with a win percentage of 69.44. Across six test series against different teams, South Africa won eight games, lost three, and drew one.
On the other hand, Australia earned a win percentage of 67.54 to qualify for the final. They finished second after winning 13 games and losing four out of 19. Two games ended in a draw. Australia are also the defending champions of the tournament.

On Tuesday, May 13, South Africa announced their 15-member squad for the ICC WTC 2023-25 final against Australia. Temba Bavuma will lead the team in the match. Lungi Ngidi, who last played a test match against West Indies in August 2024, has returned to the test side.

South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said that the Proteas have formed a balanced squad for the WTC final according to English conditions.
“Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to build a competitive red-ball unit, and this achievement reflects that progress. A key part of our success has been consistency in selection, and we’ve stuck with the core group of players who have been part of this WTC cycle. We’ve selected a balanced squad for the conditions we expect at Lord’s,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Australian cricket Team also announced their squad for the test encounter earlier in the day. Pat Cummins will lead Australia in the match. South Africa reached the World Test Championship final for the first time. Australia will play the final for the second time. In the previous WTC cycle, Australia crushed India in the final to steal the ICC Test Championship.
