Temba Bavuma has not played any competitive cricket since ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

South Africa Cricket Team has suffered a big blow as their test skipper Temba Bavuma has suffered an elbow injury two months ahead of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.

South Africa will clash with defending champions Australia in ICC WTC 2023-25 final in June. The much-awaited test match will commence on June 11. The venue of the match is Lord’s in London. The winner of the match will receive the ICC test mace.

The Proteas topped the ICC WTC 2023-25 points table with PCT of 69.44 %. Out of 12 tests, they won eight and lost three, while one match ended in a draw. Australia grabbed second spot in the table with PCT of 67.54 %. The Aussies won 13 games and lost four matches out of 19 they played in the cycle. Two games ended in a draw.

Temba Bavuma suffers injury on left elbow ahead of WTC final

Shockingly, the Proteas captain Bavuma has suffered an elbow injury two months ahead of the crucial WTC final. He was scheduled to play for the Lions team in the domestic First-Class final from Tuesday in Cape Town. However, due to the injury, the right-handed batsman did not arrive in Johannesburg.

Lions were shocked to know about Bavuma’s withdrawal from the final. Notably, Bavuma’s injury on the left elbow has resurfaced once again. He fractured his elbow for the first time in 2022 during South Africa’s tour of England. He was sidelined for three months due to the injury.

He re-injured the same elbow last year and missed test matches against Bangladesh. Notably, Bavuma led South Africa to ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final earlier this year. Since then, he has not played any competitive cricket.

Earlier this week, Bavuma was picked by Cricket South Africa (CSA) in the central contract list. Bavuma is the current skipper of South Africa in both ODIs and tests.
