South Africa ended their ICC title drought as they won the ICC World test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.
The South African Cricket Team finally laid their hands on an International Cricket Council (ICC) title after 27 years. The Proteas defeated the Australia Cricket Team in the final of the ICC World test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
South Africa were top notch with the bat and ball as they ended up winning the game by the margin of five wickets. What was impressive was the way they made a comeback after being down and dusted in the first innings.
Opting to field first, South Africa had a brilliant outing with the ball. Kagiso Rabada shone with the ball as he picked a fifer and helped his team bundle out Australia for just 212 runs. Beau Webster (72) and Steve Smith (66) were the top run-getters.
However, they didn’t have a great outing with the bat. South Africa got all out for just 138 runs with no batter going past the 50-run mark. Pat Cummins led from the front and picked a six-fer, helping his team take a lead of 74 runs in the first innings.
South African bowlers then came up with another vital effort, bowling out Australia for just 207 runs and setting a target of 282 runs for themselves. The batters then made the task look easy as they utilised the good batting conditions on days three and four.
Aiden Markram (136) slammed one of the best hundreds of his career and took the game away from Australia. Skipper Temba Bavuma provided great support to him, scoring 66 runs as the duo added 147 runs for the third wicket. Wiaan Mulder (27) and David Bedingham (21*) played valuable hands as well as South Africa chased the target with five wickets in hand.
