South Africa have seen quite a few star batters calling time on their career over the last few years.

Retirements are a key part of cricket, and they can’t be stopped. In 2023, Quinton de Kock announced his retirement from ODI cricket but returned in 2025.

Last year, Heinrich Klaasen shocked the world by retiring from international cricket at the age of 33, as he wanted to prioritise family and focus more on franchise cricket. Very recently, another South African batter has announced their retirement from international cricket.

South African batter Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket. Nevertheless, he has stated that he will continue to ply for the Lions.

The 37-year-old took to social media to share a heartfelt post announcing his retirement. In the post, he expressed gratitude to the South African Cricket Team and said he will continue teaching and mentoring the next generation of cricketers in his country. Below in the post:

Rassie van der Dussen made his debut for the senior South African team at 29 in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2018. By then, he was already a big name on the domestic cricket circuits in England, Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada, and the Caribbean.

In 2019, he played his first Test for South Africa against England, and that year he was also selected in the Proteas’ ODI World Cup squad. He went on to represent the Proteas across all three formats as a versatile batter who could play to the team’s requirements.

In a total of 71 ODIs, he scored 2657 runs for South Africa, racking up six hundreds and 17 half-centuries. Meanwhile, he scored 1406 runs in 57 T20I games and 905 runs in 18 Test matches.
