Indian Premier League 2026 is set to kick off on March 28, and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play the tournament opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Pat Cummins has been retained as SRH captain but will miss the first few games due to recovery from a back injury.
Ishan Kishan has been named as the skipper in Cummins’ absence at the start, and the latter will take over the side once he regains his fitness. Abhishek Sharma has been appointed as Kishan’s deputy.
Sunrisers failed to qualify for the playoffs last season and will aim for a big comeback this time. Last year, they finished sixth in the points table after winning six and losing seven out of 14 matches (one match ended in a no-result).
SRH bought Liam Livingstone for INR 13 crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction conducted in December last year, making him their costliest pick. They picked a total of 10 players in the auction.
The IPL 2016 champions comprise a lethal batting line-up with Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Liam Livingstone, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen. Cummins, Jayden Unadkat, Brydon Carse, Shivam Mavi, and Harshal Patel are a few prominent members of their bowling unit.
