Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought Liam Livingstone for a whopping INR 13 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. However, they have not given him enough opportunities.
Out of SRH’s six matches, Livingstone has played only two matches so far in IPL 2026. He was picked in the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he lost his wicket for just 14 runs. After his failure, SRH did not play him in the next few games.
Livingstone was picked in the clash against CSK, however, as an impact player. In the batting department, SRH have backed overseas members, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.
Are SRH making a mistake by not playing Liam Livingstone?
Sunrisers have a powerful top order with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan. They have also provided blistering starts in a few games.
However, middle-order batters have struggled to maintain the momentum. Even after getting a powerful start, SRH have failed to reach a mammoth total in the end. They have also suffered a batting collapse in the middle order.
Salil Arora, Aniket Verma, and Nitish Reddy are the middle-order batters for SRH, but they have struggled to capture runs consistently. Heinrich Klaasen has done a brilliant job, but others have failed to showcase consistent shows. In such a scenario, Livingstone can provide the depth to SRH’s batting.
If Livingstone is inducted into the playing XI, he can strengthen the batting department. Moreover, his aggressive batting style would also put opposition bowlers under pressure. If he is picked in the middle order, he can surely solve their batting woes.
Livingstone’s stats in IPL speak for himself. He has a wonderful strike rate of 156.16 in 50 matches. He has also scored seven half-centuries so far.
