Sunrisers Hyderabad rope in Varun Aaron as bowling coach ahead of IPL 2026

Varun Aaron will replace James Franklin in the role at Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Monday, 14th July, appointed former Indian pacer Varun Aaron as their new bowling coach. Aaron will take charge of the role ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He will replace former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin, who held the role in IPL 2025.
Aaron is a former right-arm pacer and represented India in nine tests and an equal number of ODIs. He clinched 18 wickets in tests and 11 scalps in ODIs. Aaron played 52 matches in the IPL and last played in the tournament in the 2022 edition for Gujarat Titans (GT).
In his IPL career, he has played for Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Aaron accounts for 44 wickets in 52 games at an average of 33.66.
SRH announce Varun Aaron’s appointment as bowling coach on X
SRH revealed the news on their official account on X (formerly Twitter). “A fiery addition to our coaching staff! Welcome Varun Aaron as our new bowling coach”, SRH wrote on X.
Aaron, who was was one of the commentators in IPL 2025, will replace Franklin in the role, who was appointed as bowling coach of SRH for IPL 2025.
Meanwhile, SRH could not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025. The Pat Cummins-led side finished in the sixth spot in the points table with 13 points. Out of 14 matches, they won six games and lost seven matches. One encounter ended without result.

Heinrich Klaasen (487) and Abhishek Sharma (439) were the top run-scorers for SRH in the tournament. Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel were the top wicket-takers with 16 scalps each. In the 2024 season, SRH finished as runners-up.
