Charith Asalanka also led Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series against the Indian cricket team.
On July 30, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Indian cricket team. Batsman Charith Asalanka has been named as Sri Lanka’s new ODI captain, replacing Kusal Mendis.
The SLC have picked a solid top-order with Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis. Star batter Sadeera Samarawickrama has also been picked by the SLC for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Men in Blue.
Former T20I skipper Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the spin attack. The hosts’ spin department also looks threatening with Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage and Akila Dananjaya in the ranks.
In the pace department, the lethal duo of Dilshan Madhushanka and Matheesha Pathirana will lead the attack. The SLC have also included all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne in the ODI squad.
Dushmantha Chameera is not named in the squad, which means he has not yet recovered from the respiratory infection that forced him out of the T20I series.
