Sri Lanka announce 15-members squad for Asia Cup 2023; Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out

Sri Lanka to play their first match of Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh on 31st August at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
In the lead-up to the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka finds itself grappling with a string of unfortunate injuries that have significantly impacted the composition of their 15-members squad. The team’s selection process has been harmed by the absence of key players due to injuries, prompting a series of adjustments and last-minute replacements.
As the cricketing world gears up for Asia Cup, Sri Lanka’s squad announcement has drawn attention . Four prominent players, including leg-spinning all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, have been ruled out due to injuries, casting a shadow over the team’s preparations. Alongside Hasaranga, pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara have also been sidelined, creating a significant void in the team’s bowling department.
Wanindu Hasaranga to miss Asia Cup 2023 due to thigh strain
Wanindu Hasaranga, who played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s recent successes, unfortunately finds himself on the sidelines due to a thigh strain sustained during the Lanka Premier League.
The trio of injured pacers has further compounded Sri Lanka’s difficulties going in the tournamnet. Dushmantha Chameera’s pectoral injury, Lahiru Madushanka’s practice match mishap, and Lahiru Kumara’s side strain have collectively weakened the team’s fast bowling resources. In response to these setbacks, the selectors have brought in Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan as replacements, hoping to restore the team’s bowling firepower.
Even the return of Kusal Perera to the ODI squad after a two-year gap has been marked by setbacks. Currently battling flu, Perera’s anticipated comeback has been delayed until he makes a full recovery. This unforeseen circumstance has added another layer of uncertainty to the team’s preparations.
