Sri Lanka have announced their squad for the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup 2026. They have named a 15-member squad for the campaign, which will commence on January 15. Zimbabwe and Namibia will host the tournament.
A total of 16 teams will battle for the title in the U19 Cricket World Cup 2026. Sri Lanka are placed in Group C alongside Japan, Ireland, and Australia. They will play their opening game of the tournament against Japan on January 17, followed by a clash against Ireland on January 19.
After this, they will face Australia in their final group stage match on January 23rd, which will be a tough match for them.
Notably, Australia are the defending champion of the tournament, who crushed India in the final of the previous edition in 2024. All three games will take place at the Namibia Cricket Ground, Windhoek.
In this tournament, Sri Lanka will be captained by Vimath Dinsara. Kavija Gamage has been appointed as his deputy. Dinsara belongs to the Royal College in Colombo, while Gamage is from Kingswood College
Moreover, Sri Lanka selected emerging players from various renowned schools and colleges across the country, resulting in a well-balanced team in batting, bowling, and fielding. Sri Lanka will aim for their maiden title in the U19 Cricket World Cup.
They will travel to Namibia on January 1 to start preparation for the tournament early. Last month, Sri Lanka performed well in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, reaching the semi-finals where they lost to India.
