Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in the second Super Four match of Asia Cup 2023.

Sri Lanka’s winning run continues in the one-day international format, as they have registered their 13th consecutive win in this format. Sri Lanka are now the second most successful team in this format, having won 13 consecutive matches since June 2023. Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs in the super 4 round game in the Asia Cup to earn two important points. Sri Lanka have overtaken South Africa and Pakistan in terms of most consecutive wins, as they were all tied at number 12, right after Australia at the top. Australian cricket team holds the record for winning the most consecutive ODIs.

Sri Lanka's 13th consecutive win

Australian cricket team won 21 one-day internationals consecutively from January 2003 to May 2003, including the 11 games they played in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 in South Africa. Their unbeaten World Cup campaign twice is still a dream for any team to achieve. Sri Lanka began their streak in June 2023 after winning against Afghanistan, and since then, they have not lost an ODI game. Sri Lanka played in the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe and won the tournament without losing any game. Sri Lanka are yet to lose a game in Asia Cup as well.

They have defeated Bangladesh twice and Afghanistan once in their three games in the tournament. Sri Lanka will be taking on India in their next game on September 12. Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan three times, Bangladesh twice, the Netherlands twice, the UAE, Oman, Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, and West Indies in these 13 ODI games. Sri Lanka will have big challenges ahead of them as they take on India and Pakistan in their remaining encounters in Asia Cup tournament. Australia’s record looks tough for any team playing in this format, as it requires the next level of consistency and dominance.

Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs. Batting first, they put 257 runs on the board. Sadeera Samarwickrama (93) played a magnificent knock and missed out on his century by a thin margin. Bangladesh bowled a great comeback in the first innings to restrict Sri Lanka to 257 as they were once looking set for a big total. Bangladesh did pose a challenge, but Maheesh Theekshana’s three-wickets spell in the middle- overs clinched the game for Sri Lanka and also two important points. Sri Lanka will be playing India and Pakistan in their remaining super four round matches.
