The Sri Lanka vs New Zealand test series will be played from September 18 to September 30.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the schedule of their two-match test series against New Zealand next month, and this includes a rare six-day test match. The exciting series will start on September 18 in Galle. This two-match test series will be part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
These two teams last played each other in a test series in 2023. The Black Caps won the series 2-0 at home. New Zealand last toured the Island Nation in 2019, drawing the test series 1-1.
Sri Lanka vs New Zealand first test will feature a rest day
A notable highlight of the upcoming test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is that the opening fixture will include a rest day. September 21 has been allocated as the rest day during the first test match between the two sides because of Sri Lanka’s presidential elections on that day.
This means that the first match will be played from September 18 to September 23 in Galle. The final match of the series will be played from September 26 to September 30 at the same venue.
This will be the first instance of a rest day being used in a test match since the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka test in Dhaka in 2008. The rest day during that match was used due to parliamentary elections.
The last rest day used in a test in Sri Lanka was in December 2001 in a test match against Zimbabwe. That rest day was used because of the occurrence of a full moon, a day being a public holiday in the largely Buddhist nation.
