Abhimanyu Easwaran was part of the Indian side for England tests.
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth made a strong statement about Abhimanyu Easwaran not getting picked in the side for the West Indies series. He feels that comments made by the batter’s father are potentially the reason behind his non-selection.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squad for the two-match test series against the West Indies. The opening game will be played at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad from 2nd October, while the second game will get underway from 10th October at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
One of the notable omissions in the Indian side was Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was part of the team for the England series. The batter didn’t get an opportunity during the five-match series but was expected to be part of the team in the West Indies series at home.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has been among the most unlucky cricketers in India. He got his maiden call-up for the test team in December 2022 for the Bangladesh tour and since then he has been searching for the cap. Despite his presence, there have been players, who got the opportunity and this has seen the BCCI receiving a lot of criticism.
After Abhimanyu Easwaran failed to find a place in the XI during the England series, his father made some strong comments. He openly questioned team management for choices, saying that the Indian team management gave preference to Indian Premier League (IPL) performances.
I think his father made some strong statements (after England), and maybe that’s why they’ve dropped him now – Kris Srikkanth on Abhimanyu Easwaran

Kris Srikkanth feels that comments made by Abhimanyu’s father could be the reason the team management dropped him. He expressed his sympathy for the batter before adding that Ajit Agarkar’s reasoning on not needing a reserve opener at home was fair.
“I feel bad for Abhimanyu Easwaran. I think his father made some strong statements (after England), and maybe that’s why they’ve dropped him now. But Ajit Agarkar’s reasoning on not needing a reserve opener at home was fair,” Kris Srikkanth said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has been the top performer in the Indian domestic circuit. He would now be keen to make a mark in the domestic season and send a strong message to selectors.
