"Will be putting my name in auction," Steve Smith eyes IPL comeback in 2025

Veteran Australian cricketer Steve Smith has expressed his desire to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Smith confirmed that he will be putting his name in the upcoming mega-auction.

So far, the Australian cricketer has played 103 IPL matches and scored 2485 runs at an average of 34.51. Smith has also registered 11 half-centuries and one hundred in the cash-rich league. He last featured in the IPL in 2021, playing for Delhi Capitals. Since then, he hasn’t featured in the competition.

Recently, the 35-year-old Smith led the Washington Freedom to their maiden Major League Cricket trophy in the 2024 edition and was also the joint-highest run-getter for his side.

The veteran cricketer played nine matches and amassed 336 runs at a stunning average of 56.00. After an impressive MLC 2024, Smith now aims to play in IPL 2025.

The veteran batter stated that he would love to be part of the IPL and will enter his name in the IPL 2025 auction.

“I’d love to be part of the IPL once again. I’ll be putting my name in the auction,” Steve Smith said to CODE Sports.

Overall, the 35-year-old Smith has played 255 T20s till now. The right-handed batter has smashed 5633 runs, including three centuries and 27 half centuries.
