Steve Smith confirms to put his name in IPL 2024 auction

Steve Smith, who didn't put his name up for IPL auction this year, affirms he will partake in the next season

Former Australian Captain Steve Smith is not part of the IPL 2023. He led the Australian Cricket Team in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins. Under Smith’s leadership, Australia defeated the Indian team in the Indore test and drew in the Nagpur test. Away from the Indian Premier League action, Steve Smith has now confirmed that he will give him a name for the next season's Auction. Steve Smith is missing from the Indian Premier League since 2021. He was part of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021.

Steve Smith to give his name in the IPL 2024 Auction

Out of the Cricketing action, Steve Smith hosted a Question and Answer session on his Instagram account. During the chat, a fan asked why he is not playing in the IPL 2023. Answering this, He replied that he did not put his name in the auction. Steve Smith said, “I did not put my name in the auction as this is a big year for Australian Cricket. I will put my name in next year, and if someone picks me up then, it will be great”. Steve Smith is currently part of the Star Sports broadcast team as an expert.

The Australian team will be eyeing the ICC World Test Championship, The Ashes, and Cricket World Cup scheduled in 2023. Steve Smith has given preference to his international team over IPL. Along with Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are also missing from the IPL 2023. Australia will play the WTC final against India in June this year. 

Previously, Smith has been part of five IPL franchises. He was part of the RCB squad in IPL 2010, but didn't get a game to play. He has played for Pune Warriors India, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He has also led Pune Super Giatns, and Rajasthan Royals. He made his debut in this league with Pune Warriors India in 2012. Since then Smith has played 103 games in the league and has scored 2485 runs.
