Stuart Broad feels that if England fail to win first test then it will be a big problem for them.

Former England cricketer Stuart Broad came up with a massive statement ahead of Ashes 2025-26. He feels that the Ben Stokes-led side needs to win the first test against Australia to have a chance to win the five-match series.

The much-anticipated Ashes 2025-26 is around the corner as two of the best teams will be in action against each other. The opening match of the series will be played at the Perth Stadium in Perth on November 21 and the series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.

The Ashes series has always been very competitive but since the last decade or so, it has been pretty one-sided with Australia having an upper hand, especially in their own backyard. England are yet to win a series in Australia since 2010/11 and it will be a huge challenge for them ahead.

But, under the leadership of Ben Stokes, England have looked a different side altogether. They drew the last Ashes series and now would be keen to script history in Australia and return home with the trophy.

If England don’t get anything out of the first two, then that’s a major problem – Stuart Broad

Stuart Broad, who was the mainstay of England’s bowling, said that the Ben Stokes-led side need to make an impact in the first two games to have a chance.

“England have to win the first test to stand a chance of winning the Ashes,” during an appearance on the ‘Odds Law’ podcast. “Our record’s shocking at the Gabba. That’s why it’s a small advantage that the first test isn’t there this time… I think it will all be on the first two test matches, if I’m honest.”

Stuart Broad added that if things don’t go in England’s way during the first two games then it will be a major problem. He said:

“If England don’t get anything out of the first two, then that’s a major problem because in Australia, the energy, the flow of the whole country will build up and then you’re fighting a bit of a losing battle.”

England have been preparing hard for the Ashes 2025-26. They would be keen to win the first game and then carry on the confidence going ahead.
